HOW DO I GET TO THE OBSERVATORY????
Club Nights may be changed to Observatory Nights and vice versa at short notice depending on weather conditions.
Phone a member of the committee for further advice. Club Nights are more 'relaxed' meetings at the clubroom, where members can drink coffee, chat with other people, read our library books and magazines, or relate astronomical images and stories to each other (or to escape from the spouse!).
Debates - make your viewpoint known!
The Society meets every Friday evening either at the clubroom - 4A Railway Street, Huddersfield - or at the Observatory - Blackmoorfoot Road, Crosland Heath, Huddersfield. Clubroom meetings start at 7.30 pm and tend to finish at around 9.30 pm. Events at the Observatory start at varying times and can finish at any time.
PLEASE NOTE IF ATTENDING AT THE OBSERVATORY: do's and don'ts (from webmaster)
There are no toilet facilities at the observatory, so go before leaving home,
or bring your own bush to hide behind ;-)
It can get cold in winter (so dress for arctic conditions).
Bring a torch (red light prefered as it does not ruin your night vision or everybody else's).
No smoking in the building or near the petrol driven generator(it can get hot quickly if you do..).
Don't expect to see objects in color, retina's aren't made from ccd camera's or photographic film.
